Tribus Montana also dedicates time and resources to supporting various non-profit initiatives inside and outside of Belgium. These are the Belgian Chapter of the ‘Invictus Games’, ‘Merci Ships’, and ‘B-Fast’.
Why, you might ask? Because we are committed to the less fortunate…!
Invictus Games
Their scope?
The Invictus Games were founded by Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, after he saw the Warrior Games in the U.S. in 2013 and was inspired by the power of sport in the recovery of wounded, injured, and sick (= WIS) military personnel and veterans.
Having served as a JTAC - Forward Air Controller and an Apache Helicopter Fighter Pilot himself in the British military during several combat deployments, he knew the extend of mental, emotional, and physical damage war can cause.
The Invictus Games use adaptive sports to inspire recovery, rehabilitation, and a greater sense of purpose for participants. The name ‘Invictus’ is Latin for ‘unconquered’, reflecting the resilience of the athletes.
The Belgian Chapter was launched in 2019.
Why are we supporting this?
To help the general public understand what all NATO troopers sacrifice, all across the world, for our security, freedom, democracy, and well-being.
Merci Ships
Their scope?
The history of Mercy Ships began in 1978 when Don and Deyon Stephens purchased a former cruise ship, named the ‘Victoria’, which they converted over a four-year period into the hospital ship ‘Anastasis’. The organization was founded in Lausanne, Switzerland, with a vision to provide free medical and humanitarian aid to developing nations.
Over the years, Mercy Ships has grown to operate a fleet of hospital ships, and it decommissioned the ‘Anastasis’ in 2007. Now it operates the ‘Caribbean Merci’ and its flagship the ‘Africa Merci’.
The organization relies on thousands of professional volunteers from around the world who donate their time and skills to serve on these ships.
Why are we supporting this?
To help the general public understand how severe the lack of emotional, medical, psychological, and surgical support is in some of the less developed countries across the globe.
B-Fast
Their scope?
B-FAST’s mission is to provide rapid emergency assistance abroad in response to disasters by deploying Belgian teams, equipment, and expertise to support affected countries.
This interdepartmental structure, founded in 2003, fills the gap between a disaster's onset and the start of long-term reconstruction, providing a range of services, including field hospitals, water purification, rescue operations, and medical supplies.
Interventions are almost always coordinated through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. And the security aspect of a mission is always taken into account in assessing whether deploying B-FAST equipment or experts is appropriate.
Why are we supporting this?
To help the general public understand that some countries and their governments lack the overall capacity to go into a fast recovery and build up after severe riots, civil war, devastating natural or climate-related disasters. And thus, they might need external emergency response teams to deal with the first stage of those crises.
